Getting a job is about a lot of factors. One of them is supply and demand. If there are more jobs available in a certain field, chances are higher that you might get a job. For designers, it is important to know if there are more jobs in UX or UI.

To determine if there are more jobs in UX or UI, we are going to take a look at some of the biggest job boards in the world. We assume that if there’s a clear winner on these job boards, the overall winner will be clear as well.
Some side notes to remember are the fact that UX designers in some cases can also work as UI designers and vice versa. Also, we would like to stress that there’s a difference between in-house and freelance jobs.

UX job demand
UX designers are in demand. This doesn’t mean that there are a lot of jobs available per se. It could also be the case that there is both little demand and little supply as well. We just want to point this out even though we think there’s a high supply and demand for UX designers.
Here’s the number of UX job openings on the largest job boards. We’re going to look at LinkedIn and Glassdoor.
- 6.700 job openings in the United States, 1.800 in both India and the United Kingdom, according to LinkedIn.
- 7.400 job openings in the United States, 1.800 in India, and 1.400 in the United Kingdom, according to Glassdoor.
If you put these numbers together, you will see that there are about 21.000 job openings for UX designers available in the USA, UK, and India.
UI job demand
Let’s do the same research to find out what the job demand is for UI design jobs.
- 5.000 job openings in the United States, 1.700 in India, and 1.500 in the United Kingdom, according to LinkedIn.
- 7.300 job openings in the United States, 3.600 in India, and 1.000 in the United Kingdom, according to Glassdoor.
Once again, we’re going to add these numbers to find the total demand. For UI designers, there are a total of about 20.000 job openings available on these job boards.
Are there more jobs in UX or UI?
As you can see, with 21.000 jobs in UX and 20.000 jobs in UI, the results are very close. However, there are more jobs in UX. Not only is the absolute number of job openings higher. Another thing is that quite a few UX designers can apply for a job in UI as well.
This answers the question of whether there are more jobs in UX or UI. The answer is that there are more jobs in UX than in UI.
